Using Storytelling Techniques to Create Better Interactive Experiences
David SherwinPlot. Genre. Character. Conflict. Terms that you usually hear in association with the latest Hollywood thriller or blockbuster novel, not breakthrough interactive experiences. As an interactive designer you need to be strong not only at the craft of creating compelling user interfaces and experiences, but also be able to construct and tell great stories, in the service of advancing the needs of your users.
In this session, David will explore:
- Why stories are crucial as part of the interactive design process—especially when creating future-forward experiences
- What story elements are necessary as part of envisioning those experiences
- A range of story-based tools that are used by interactive teams at various levels of fidelity: user stories, user journeys, scenario-based storyboards and cartoons, animatics, and video prototypes
- Examples of how stories best fit into the research, design, and development process
